Heading over into Wales, we checked out the scenic Wye River Valley. There’s beautiful hiking trails and some darn good climbing, too. The River Wye is the 4th longest river in the UK and its’ lower portion actually serves as the border between England and Wales. As we explored the area we came across medieval ruins and a famous cliff. According to legend, the Royalist, Sir John Wintour, escaped his pursuers during the English Civil War by jumping off the tall riverside cliffs into the Wye and swimming to safety.
Another very interesting place.
Super Kool! Sr. Wintour must have had quite a good running start!! ;~)
Excellent shot across the gorge to the Climbing Wall!
Thanks for sharing.
That’s what I thought too! There’s actually a plaque at the spot that says the river bed was closer to the cliffs back in those days. I suspect it’s still a bit of hyperbole though.
