Our second hike in the Swiss Alps took us on a trail that traversed the scree slope at the base of the Eiger Nørdwand. The photos definitely don’t do justice to gazing up at the 5,900 foot vertical wall of rock and ice at such a close proximity!
The Eiger Nørdwand is the biggest north face in the Alps, and it’s reputation as being one of the most dangerous and prized climbing faces has led to it being nicknamed the Mordwand, or Murder Wall. Since 1935, at least 64 climbers have died attempting the Eiger Nørdwand.
