In 1900, Count Eusebi Güell commissioned Antoni Gaudí to help design and build a housing development on Muntanya Pelada (Bare Mountain), which rises above urban Barcelona. The intent was to build a number of luxury homes in the English Garden City style, which emphasizes fresh air, lots of space and spectacular views over the urban city central.
In the end, only 2 houses were built, none of which ever sold. It was eventually turned into a municipal park in 1926, and is filled with original works and architectural designs by Gaudí.
