The word Alcázar comes from the Arabic word al-qasr, which translates to the palace or castle. The Alcázar is build on lands that have been continuously occupied since the 8th century BC. The most flamboyant structures of the present day Alcázar were built in the 13th century AD by Alfonso X of Castile and Peter of Castile.
