Monet’s Water Lilies at Musée de l’Orangerie

The French State built a pair of oval rooms as permanent galleries for 8 huge Water Lily murals by Claude Monet. The paintings were donated to the State after the Armistice of 1918 and are displayed in a ‘figure eight’ formation across the 2 galleries to represent eternal peace. Each room creates a beautiful, immersive environment. These paintings are considered Monet’s crowning achievement, after almost 30 years of painting the water lilies from his famous garden ponds.

I’ve wanted to see these ever since l first learned about Impressionism as a child. Mom, you would have loved it!

  1. Here you are again at a favorite movie location – Midnight in Paris – a Woody Allen movie, if you’re not familiar.
Fabulous murals! Giverney is such a beautiful garden.
