Legend has it that the Moeraki Boulders were formed millions of years ago, when only the first two people inhabited New Zealand. The couple lived by the beach with their two dogs, Moe and Raki. They loved nothing more than playing fetch with balls on the beach with their dogs. Over the years, they lost many balls in the sand, which were buried and turned to stone. Millions of years later, erosion has exposed their balls in their current positions on the beach by their old home.
That’s not an official legend … but what the heck, we can make stuff up too, right??
