We had to visit the home town of my maternal grandfather’s family, the Signorelli’s, on the south east shore of Lago Maggiore in northern Italy. We explored the sleepy, lakeside vacation town of Angera and toured the lovely medieval castle which still stands guard atop the rocky hill above it. Though originally built sometime before the 13th century, the Rocca Borromeo di Angera, or Borromeo Castle, has been owned by the Borromeo family since 1449. They’ve been responsible for expanding, renovating and maintaining the castle and grounds over the centuries. Here’s a gallery of images from around the town and castle.
