The Abbey at the village of Lacock was founded in the 13th century by Ela, Countess of Salisbury. It was originally built as a nunnery of the Augustinian order. It remained a nunnery until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the mid 16th century, when it was sold into private ownership as a Manor house. It underwent many renovations under many different owners during the next few centuries.
During the 19th century it was the residence of William Henry Fox Talbot. In 1835 he made what may be the earliest surviving photographic camera negative – an image of Lacock’s gardens looking out through one of the manor windows.
It has also been used in many movies, including JK Rowling’s Wizarding World films and Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice.
Wow, love this!!!
