After a week of driving north through the center of Norway, we finally arrived on Senja Island! Senja is Norway’s second largest Island, and is known for its wild and dramatic coastlines. We went on a couple of spectacular hikes while we were there. The first was to a mountain peak called Hesten, which stands at 1,830 feet above the Mefjorden. It’s famous for being the best viewpoint for one of Norway’s most dramatic mountain peaks, Segla.
Our hike started in the little fishing village of Fjordgård
Fjordgård sits on the west side of the Ømfjorden and is surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks, like Kaipan Peak which rises to over 2,000 feet from the fjord below

The views of Segla started to get really impressive about three quarters of the way up to the summit of Hesten
The following eight photos show a 360 degree panorama of the surrounding terrain from the summit of Hesten …
Fantastic pics !!!
Thank you!!
Wow, Breathtaking. Is that all volcanic ?
No, the rock slowly cooled deep underground, eroded to the surface and then was carved by glaciers. I assumed it was volcanic too. So much of it looks like carved out old volcano calderas!
Awesome views with awesome weather, but really, how was the night life.
Traveling the world with your sweetie pie and experiencing places like this is, in my mind, a quintessential existence. Good on you both!
Night life?? Would you consider an early dinner on the town, and a sunset walk with my sweetie pie, night life? If so, awesome night life in Norway … otherwise, you’re asking the wrong old guy ; )
