Hardwick Hall and Kenilworth Castle

Hardwick Hall is an Elizabethan style country house which was commissioned by Bess of Hardwick, and built between 1590 and 1597. Bess was married 4 times. Each of her marriages increased her wealth, and she was the second richest woman in England (second only to Queen Elizabeth) at the time of Hardwick Hall’s construction.

Kenilworth Castle was founded in the 1120’s. The castle was rebuilt and enlarged multiple times over the next few centuries. Kenilworth was the location of a number of historically significant events, including the longest siege in Medieval English history, which lasted for over 6 months in 1266. It was also the location where Edward II was removed from the English throne in 1327 by his wife, Isabella, and an English Lord named Roger Mortimer.
