Being a big Agatha Christie fan, l had to visit the author’s vacation retreat near her childhood home of Torquay. They named it Greenway House and it is located on the banks of the River Dart in Devon. This general area also happens to be where many of her stories took place! We toured the knickknack filled house (the family loved to collect things), amused ourselves with a few vacation pastimes and explored the extensive grounds.

Tennis was a bit of an exertion while recovering from my cold
Eating grapes in the greenhouse is more like it
Ahh, a much less strenuous game
The fountain in the fernery was supposedly Agatha’s favorite spot in the garden
Colorful plantings beside a decorative mosaic of the house and moniker
Yep, that’s a portrait of four year old Agatha looking really bored! Note the doll she is holding is the same one sitting on the chair below the painting!
The multitude and lushness of the hydrangeas was amazing!

Gotta have cannons, just in case any pirates sail up river!
Ooooh. I really need to go there. I love Agatha Christie too and just read a good book about her “disappearance” call the Christie Affair. I can see why she loved her fern garden. And are you tossing stuffies through a hoop?
Really want to read that book – I’ve got it next up on my list!
Yeah, they’re little lions we were throwing through hoops of faux flames. It was a circus theme, although, come to think of it, that was never a subject that Agatha Christie used in any of her books. 🤔
Beautiful place !! Loved the fountain in the fernery too & what are you throwing through that circular thing. Looks like tiny lions (???)
Yes! There were circus themed games out in the garden – so we played throw the lion beanbags through the faux flaming hoops.
WOW. Beautiful. ❤️
😀
Very beautiful. I want to go to there!
Reading the Agatha Christie stories set in the Devon countryside really gives you a feel for the location, too.

Thank you for sharing your trip via pictures and commentary. Seems like it’s an epic adventure. Keep the pictures and stories coming. xoxo, Michael & Helene.

What a beautiful day and opportunity to explore the grounds.
As for grapes, Hollis discovered ours and , although this year provided a bumper crop, the dogs ended up eating all of them before they were ripe enough for human likes.
Count yourself lucky!!
It was a rare sunny day!
I guess the Romans introduced grapes here, but what’s really yummy is the blackberries (aka brambles) that grow everywhere!
