Castle Glamis is located near the East coast of Scotland, about halfway between Aberdeen and Edinburgh. It is the home of Simon Bowes-Lyon, 19th Earl of Strathmore and 6th Earl of Kinghorne. The castle and land have been the ancestral home of the Lyon Clan since the 14th century, almost 300 years before the current castle structure was built.
Glamis was also the home of the Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, who would later become Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. How does one become The Queen Mother, you might ask? That might be quite obvious to most, but I had to look that one up as I’m not very knowledgeable on Royal ascendancy stuff. So, for the rest of the unwashed peasants out there who are interested …
In the case of Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, it happened when her husband, King George Vl, passed away. Since Elizabeth married into the Royal family, and had no Royal blood of her own, she had no claim to the throne when her husband died. Instead, the throne passed to their oldest daughter, Elizabeth ll, and thus making Elizabeth the Queen Mother! Yeah, pretty obvious I guess.
Anyway, here’s a gallery of pics from Glamis Castle, the ancestral home of The Queen Mum, The Lady Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon!

Weird Sister indeed. Sign me up!
Weird is wonderful! 🙃
Can’t believe I misspelled my own name 🤪
Screwed up the reply. One of the coolest castles yet. I love the turrets. When you get home you can build me a turret. By the time you come back from this adventure you’ll probably have seen just about every castle in the UK. Ah, royalty
Yeah, it does feel like a lot of castles, but there’s sooooo many more around the British Isles! It’s just a common thing around these parts.
Looks like you didn’t get inside Glamis, but beautiful exterior. Yup we all know about weird sisters. I guess that includes me……
We chose not to take the interior tour – there’s only so much opulence we can take and they don’t allow pictures anyway. The extensive grounds and the weird sisters is more our speed.
So beautiful, yet deceiving. All your pics have been sunny, blue sky (mostly) days.
Oh yeah, bring me back a cow!!
Another Weird Sista . . .
We try to make the most of the sunny days. The Scottish Highland Cows are such a trade mark of the area. They project a lot of character, much like the people of the area!
Love the fourth witch or sister !! And love all the castles you have visited, but this is my favorite. I think I lived in a castle in one of my other lives!! ❤️❤️.
🥰
Nice! Royalty in a past life!
I just think I was a dog in a past life…… 🐶
