Yes! Cheddar cheese does get its name from the village of Cheddar in Somerset, England. Just east of the village is Cheddar Gorge and Caves. At its’ max, the gorge is about 450 feet deep, with near vertical cliff faces in spots. It was originally cut by glacial runoff through layers of limestone. Most of the water now runs underground, carving out large cave systems. These caves are where the famous Cheddar cheese is aged to perfection! The shear rock faces also make for some fun and scenic rock climbing.

Actually, most of the cars are just hikers and average tourists. There was a company teaching people to top rope climb as a tourist activity in one small corner. But only a few independent climbers like us.
