An Afternoon in Hobbiton

We visited the outdoor filming set of Hobbiton, which was built on the Alexander family farm just outside of Matamata. There’s over 50 different hobbit holes created with great attention to detail. They were constructed to different scales depending on if just hobbits, or men/wizards were being filmed in the scene. Pretty fricken’ nerdaliciously awesome stuff!!

You can see the set designers got the scale just right to make wizard Angela look giant compared to tiny, hobbit Chris

  1. The scope of my envy is boundless. Hobbiton! Is it secret? Is it safe? And was Samwise out trimming the verge? Did you take one more step and find yourself farther from home than you’ve ever been before?

    1. It was everything you could ever imagine and more. Secret, safe, peaceful. All the hobbits were so friendly and welcoming … until Angela stole mushrooms from Farmer Maggot’s land & Chris peed on the old Gaffer’s cabbages. They chased us away with their gardening tools. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

  2. Woke up to the latest blog entry from Mexico………..couldn’t stop smiling thru it all. My family is the BEST family in the whole world!!!! Can’t wait to see more…………Mom
