Windermere is a large, narrow lake in Cumbria’s Lake District. This area of northern England is known for scenic mountain peaks separated by lovely lakeside valleys. Unfortunately, most of those views were shrouded by thick clouds and rain during our visit. But, the lush forested slopes were quite beautiful.
Wray Castle is situated near the lake shore, overlooking the surrounding countryside. The castle is a Victorian Neo-Gothic mansion built in 1840 by a wealthy businessman. We were lucky enough to get a campsite in the grounds near the castle. We enjoyed exploring the nearby area when not sheltering from rain.
